Background
MARIN developed BlueLabs as a new testing facility to continue contributing effectively to technological developments that support sustainability at sea. BlueLabs offers:
- Unique wind generation systems for realistic wind field modelling, enabling the study of aero hydrodynamic interactions of floating offshore wind turbines (FOWT), floating solar panels and floating infrastructure.
- Wireless and optical measurement solutions to minimise the influence of cabling on motions and structural behaviour.
- A hybrid testing environment combining software in the loop wind field modelling with basin models equipped with wind force generating actuators.
- A new model scale rotor nacelle assembly for testing future FOWTs in the 20+ MW range at a scale of 1:40, resulting in a 6 metre rotor diameter at scale.
BlueLabs technology will be applied in several projects starting from April, including the ScaleWind JIP (testing a 22 MW FOWT) and the Climate Fund – Offshore Solar programme of the Dutch Ministry of Climate and Green Growth.
For a visual impression, watch BlueLabs for floating offshore wind turbines or BlueLabs for floating solar panels and infrastructure.
We look forward to welcoming you in Wageningen.
Kind regards, Erik-Jan de Ridder
